Job summary

Olympia Fields Hospital is seeking a Certified Phlebotomy Technician for per diem evening shifts in the hospital laboratory. You will perform skin puncture and venipuncture on patients of all ages to obtain blood specimens for analysis, under supervision of the Laboratory Director/Manager/Supervisor.

Responsibilities include data entry, clerical support, test terminology knowledge, and maintaining phlebotomy techniques across departments.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of formal phlebotomy training or equivalent on-the-job training with documented competency.
• Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician is required.
• BLS certification within 45 days of hire and maintained.
• Minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs computer data entry, filing, telephone communication and other clerical duties.
• Possesses adequate knowledge of the terminology of tests ordered in the laboratory.
• Demonstrates good communication skills and telephone etiquette in greeting patients and visitors.
• Demonstrates proper phlebotomy technique and the use of equipment for newborns to geriatrics.
• Processes microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry and blood bank specimens.
