Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a formal phlebotomy training program or equivalent on-the-job training with documented competency required.
• Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician required.
• BLS certification within 45 days of hire and maintained.
• Minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform skin puncture or venipuncture on patients of all ages for blood specimen collection.
• Perform computer data entry, filing, telephone communication and other clerical duties.
• Demonstrate knowledge of laboratory test terminology and proper phlebotomy technique.
• Collect specimens from newborns to geriatric patients using proper techniques.
• Process specimens for various laboratory sections and arrange referrals as needed.
• Stock and order routine supplies; maintain cleanliness of storage and work areas.
• Load specimens on automated laboratory instrumentation according to policy.
• May assist with sample pickup, sorting, and delivery across departments; may work night shifts.
• May serve as Phlebotomy Lead as assigned by management.
