Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists in processing prescriptions, handling insurance billing, and delivering excellent customer service in a fast-paced retail pharmacy. You will assist with labeling, stocking, and maintaining patient information with strict HIPAA compliance.

You must be licensed as a pharmacy technician and have vaccination certification if administering vaccines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certified as a licensed technician through a national program; maintain continuing education to keep license active.
• Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy clerk preferred.
• Vaccination certification required if administering vaccines, as required by law.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and making interactions positive.
• Handle inquiries that do not require a pharmacist's expertise and judgment.
• Accept new written prescription orders and telephoned refill requests at the supervising pharmacist’s discretion.
• Contact doctors’ offices to take or request refill prescriptions as needed.
• Gather and maintain accurate patient information required to prepare prescriptions.
• Assist pharmacists in preparing prescription drug products for dispensing and labeling.
• Submit insurance claims and assist with third‑party billing and troubleshooting.
• Maintain patient confidentiality under HIPAA and adhere to all relevant regulations.
• Stock pharmacy supplies, log invoices, and ensure a clean dispensing area.
• Administer vaccines as allowed by law, with required certification where applicable.
