Peer Support Specialist

Location: York/Adams County, PA

Part -Time Opportunity

Are you ready to use your own recovery journey to support others on theirs? At SAM, Inc., we believe that lived experience can be a powerful guide. We are seeking a dedicated Peer Support Specialist to help individuals set goals, overcome challenges, and move forward with confidence.

In this meaningful role, you will use your experience to support others as they navigate recovery. You will advocate, educate, mentor, and walk alongside individuals as they build skills and create new opportunities for themselves. This is more than a job — it is a chance to inspire hope and empower lasting change.

What You Will Do:

  • Assist peers in identifying and working toward recovery goals
  • Encourage and celebrate individual achievements
  • Promote self-advocacy, independence, and self-sufficiency
  • Act as a mentor, role model, and ally
  • Provide orientation to recovery culture, language, and expectations
  • Connect individuals to community resources and sober supports
  • Provide support and coaching in individual and group settings
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including case notes


Who You Are:

  • A current or former mental health peer (preferred)
  • Someone with at least one year of volunteer or paid experience within the last three years
  • A compassionate and honest individual who values ethics, trust, and lifelong learning
  • A strong collaborator who also works independently
  • Tech-savvy and adaptable to changing needs
  • Passionate about making a difference in your community


What You Need:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License and acceptable driving record
  • Automobile and valid insurance
  • Required clearances: Act 33, Act 34, FBI fingerprinting
  • Social Security card, I-9 documentation, and drug screening clearance


Working Conditions:

  • Travel throughout York and Adams counties, including occasional adverse weather
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds as needed
