As a Certified Peer Specialist, you will be responsible for providing peer support services to those in an inpatient setting by serving as an advocate to help consumers regain control over their lives through the recovery process. Work involves collaboration with peer mentors, other hospital staff, family and community members, and other advocates to assist consumers in self-identifying personal goals for recovery, determining steps to reach recovery goals, and providing an environment of mutual respect, empowerment, and opportunities within their communities. Work also entails providing information on public services, educational opportunities, employment and vocational skill supports, as well as actively listening to and advocating with consumers reflectively to recognize their strengths and recovery options.
