Job summary

OrthoVirginia Inc. seeks a Certified Orthopedic Surgical Coder | Charge Capture to translate orthopedic surgical activity into precise coding and charges. The role collaborates across Operatory, Materials Management, clinical, and Revenue Cycle teams to maximize revenue integrity.

Onsite position supporting the Operatory team at Shrader Road and Westchester Commons locations; experience in surgical coding and EHR systems required, Epic experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Orthopedic experience with knowledge of surgical procedures, workflows, instrumentation, implants and supplies.
• Working knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, modifiers and surgical coding practices.
• Experience with EHR systems and strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience in a surgical setting such as ASC, hospital OR, or office-based operatory.

Responsibilities

• Review completed orthopedic surgical cases to ensure procedures, implants and supplies are accurately captured.
• Review operative documentation and apply appropriate CPT, HCPCS and modifier coding.
• Reconcile operative records with cut sheets and bill-only documentation to verify usage.
• Collaborate with surgeons and clinical teams to clarify procedures and resolve discrepancies.
• Support implant tracking, materials management and bill-only workflows.
• Audit cases for coding accuracy to identify missing charges and prevent revenue loss.
• Maintain accurate information in the EHR and inventory systems.
• Ensure compliance with billing requirements for surgical cases.

Certified Orthopedic Surgical Coder | Charge Capture

Bring Your Surgical Knowledge Beyond the OR OrthoVirginia is seeking a Certified Orthopedic Surgical Coder | Charge Capture professional who understands what happens during an orthopedic surgical case, from the procedure performed to the implants and supplies used, and can translate that activity into accurate coding, charges, and reimbursement. This is not a traditional medical coding role. You’ll combine your orthopedic surgical knowledge with coding expertise to ensure surgical cases are accurately documented, coded, and billed. You’ll partner across our Operatory, Materials Management, clinical, and Revenue Cycle teams to identify discrepancies, prevent missed charges, and support revenue integrity. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who understands the clinical side of orthopedic surgery and has expanded their expertise into coding, charge capture, surgical billing, materials management, or implant coordination.

Onsite position supporting OrthoVirginia’s Operatory team Work between our Shrader Road and Westchester Commons locations based on operational needs Monday through Friday

What You’ll Do

• Review completed orthopedic surgical cases to ensure procedures, implants, supplies, and other billable items are accurately captured.
• Review operative documentation and apply appropriate CPT, HCPCS, and modifier coding.
• Reconcile operative records with cut sheets, purchase orders, bill-only documentation, and other supporting documentation to verify implant and supply usage.
• Partner with surgeons and clinical teams to clarify procedures, address missing or conflicting documentation, and resolve discrepancies before claims move forward.
• Collaborate with Materials Management to support accurate implant, consignment, inventory, and bill-only workflows.
• Audit surgical cases for coding, documentation, and charge accuracy to identify missing charges and help prevent revenue loss.
• Confirm surgical assistant and other applicable billing requirements.
• Maintain accurate and timely information within the EHR and inventory management systems.
• Partner across Operatory, Materials Management, and Revenue Cycle to resolve discrepancies and identify opportunities to improve charge capture, revenue integrity, and processes.

What You’ll Bring

• Required Current coding credential such as CPC, CCS-P, CRC, or equivalent.
• Orthopedic experience with knowledge of surgical procedures, workflows, instrumentation, implants, and supplies.
• Experience in a surgical setting, such as an ASC, hospital OR, or office-based operatory.
• Working knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, and surgical coding practices.
• Experience with EHR systems and strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Preferred Surgical Technologist/CST or other direct OR clinical experience.
• Experience with surgical charge capture, billing, materials management, or implant coordination.
• Knowledge of implant tracking, consignment inventory, or bill-only workflows.
• Revenue integrity or reimbursement experience.
• Epic experience.

IND123 Compensation Range for this position: $24.23 - $36.35 Compensation for this role will be based on several factors, including the candidate's qualifications, relevant experience, education, skills, certifications, geography/market, and internal equity considerations.
