An established industry player in health services is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant to provide exceptional care under the supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist. The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides service under the supervision of the Registered Occupational Therapist (OTR). The COTA follows the treatment plan developed by the occupational therapist and assists clients in resuming or developing skills needed for daily life and work. They collaborate with the OT to modify care as necessary.
Delivers individualized, patient-centered treatment based on evidence-based practice and selects appropriate interventions according to the plan of care established by the occupational therapist.
Aids in the periodic reassessment of patient progress and contributes to discharge planning.
Supervises treatment provided by occupational therapy assistant students.
Participates in and makes recommendations for client care interventions to the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Reports any changes in patient status or needs to the supervising therapist promptly.
Delegates and instructs supportive personnel in services to be provided.
Provides timely documentation according to department and/or entity policy, as well as insurance requirements, to meet licensing, certification, regulatory, reimbursement standards, and physician treatment plans.
Uses professional judgment to ensure safety for self, patients, and others at all times.
Performs all other duties as requested by the manager.
Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
In critical access hospitals, responsibilities include directing the Swing Bed activities program for swing bed patients.
Experience: Less than 1 year
Certifications: Basic Life Support (American Heart Association or Red Cross)
Education: Associate Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
