Responsibilities

A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a vital role in the rehabilitation and care of patients with diverse physical, mental, or emotional conditions. The main goal of a COTA is to assist individuals in developing, recovering, improving, and maintaining skills necessary for daily living and working. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Patient Care Execution: Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, execute therapeutic plans by teaching patients to use adaptive equipment, guiding exercises, and engaging them in activities essential for recovery.
  2. Activity and Program Planning: Contribute to planning and selecting therapeutic activities tailored to each patient's needs and interests, aligning with the goals set by the occupational therapist.
  3. Progress Monitoring: Regularly observe, document, and report patients' progress, adjusting interventions as needed to ensure continuous improvement.
  4. Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families about therapy processes, adaptive equipment, and home modifications, providing clear instructions to support ongoing recovery and independence at home.
Qualifications
