Job summary

Brookhaven Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare in East Orange, New Jersey is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join a supportive, team-based rehabilitation program.

Under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, you will deliver skilled OT services to residents, promote independence, and contribute to a caring environment focused on quality outcomes for daily living and functional improvement.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited OTA program certified by the AOTA.
• Certified and/or eligible for NBCOT certification.
• Licensed and/or eligible for licensure as required by the state.

Responsibilities

• Implements resident’s individualized treatment plan under supervision of the OT.
• Provides OT treatments including ADLs and ROM exercises.
• Performs ADL evaluations under the OT direction.
• Organizes and facilitates treatment groups with the OT.
• Instructs residents and families in OT techniques under supervision.
• Works with rehab team to develop programs matching resident needs.
• Maintains documentation for all residents treated.
• Attends care meetings as a representative of OT.
• Cleans and maintains equipment and reports repairs.
• Ensures high-quality, compassionate service to residents and families.

Position Summary

The Occupational Therapy Assistant implements occupational therapy programs and provides occupational therapy treatments to residents to facilitate increased independence and functioning under the supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities

• Implements resident’s individualized treatment plan as defined by the primary Occupational Therapist;
• Provides individualized occupational therapy treatments including activities of daily living and range of motion exercises;
• Performs activities of daily living evaluations under the direction of the Occupational Therapist;
• Organizes and facilitates treatment groups in consultation with the Occupational Therapist;
• Instructs residents, families and other caregivers in the skills and techniques of the occupational therapy treatment program under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist;
• Works with other members of the rehabilitation team to develop programs and activities consistent with the needs and capabilities of each resident;
• Maintains appropriate and timely resident and non-resident documentation for all residents treated;
• Attends and contributes to resident care, staffing and other required meetings as a representative of occupational therapy, under the direction of the Occupational Therapist;
• Cleans, maintains, identifies and reports the need for repair of equipment, as necessary;
• Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere that recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights.

Specific Educational/Vocational Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program certified by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
• The candidate must be certified and/or eligible for certification by the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board.
• Licensed and/or eligible for licensure, as required by the state.
