Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

From bones to brains, our cutting-edge hospital heals even the most serious of injuries, specializing in everything from total joint replacement to spinal cord injuries and neurological conditions. Our 141-bed facility welcomes over 3,000 patients annually. As the state’s largest provider of inpatient rehabilitation services, we offer some of the most advanced therapies for stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic and sports injuries, among others.

As a COTA, you will deliver occupational therapy services, including evaluation of patient needs, goal setting, and developing treatment plans according to occupational therapy principles and practices.

• Perform direct occupational therapy services to patients in accordance with Maryland State Board of Occupational Therapy Practice, code of ethics, and departmental policies.
• Record patient data for re-evaluations and care in the medical record, following departmental documentation standards.
• Participate in performance improvement activities and suggest areas for enhancement to colleagues. Propose topics and techniques to improve occupational therapy services.
• Resolve or report clinical and operational issues to department leadership to ensure high-quality care and efficient operations.
• Provide interdisciplinary, safe, patient-centered care, and deliver excellent customer service.

• Preferred: 1 year of relevant experience.
• Licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant in Maryland.
• Current ACLS or BCLS certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proficient knowledge of occupational therapy theories and techniques, with general knowledge of orthopedics, plastics, pediatrics, neurology, psychology, psychiatry, anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and general medicine.
• Ability to oversee and direct occupational therapy and support staff.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills for working with patients, staff, and documenting progress.
