Summary

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant administers programs of Occupational Therapy (OT) and conducts OT programs to restore function, prevent disability, and help patients reach their maximum level of independence. Contributes to the appropriate plan of care in collaboration with OTR, patient, and family to assist in achieving maximum function. Facilitates participation in everyday living and improves quality of life through prescribed exercises, hands-on care, and patient education.

Job Duties
  • Reviews and implements established occupational therapy plans of care to restore function, prevent disability, and help patients reach their maximum performance level.
  • Utilizes evidence-based therapy techniques such as therapeutic exercises, manual techniques, functional mobility training, activities of daily living training, splinting/DME, and modalities.
  • Provides occupational therapy treatment tailored to patients' needs.
  • Communicates patient progress and limitations to supervisors, physicians, and team members.
  • Develops individualized treatment plans based on age and population-specific needs, using a developmental and family-centered approach.
  • Ensures cost-effective care in accordance with billing guidelines.
  • Completes and submits all required documentation per policies and regulatory standards.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Less than 1 year of clinical experience, completed as part of educational requirements.
  • Knowledge of patient rights and laws such as HIPAA.
  • Knowledge of occupational therapy techniques.
  • Ability to provide safe, compassionate, and competent treatments.
  • Effective communication skills with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Understanding of safety standards and workplace regulations.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification - State of Pennsylvania (upon hire).
  • Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) - State of Pennsylvania (upon hire).
Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs., push/pull patients on beds or stretchers, perform lateral transfers, and walk 8-10 miles per shift. Activities may include kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing CPR.
