Under the supervision of a registered occupational therapist, the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant is responsible for assisting patients in their physical, mental, and emotional rehabilitation. This role involves facilitating patients' adaptation to disabilities using professional skills. The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant provides quality occupational therapy services with various media. The position requires creativity, adaptability, and the ability to exercise independent judgment in duties.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Complete ADL assessments, assist OTR in implementing treatment plans, and determine patients' adaptive equipment needs.
  2. Provide patient and family education regarding treatment.
  3. Administer treatments at multiple locations for inpatients and outpatients under direct or indirect supervision by an occupational therapist.
  4. Ensure timely documentation of patient-related information.
  5. Represent OT in various multidisciplinary meetings.
  6. Assist in cross-training OT department personnel.
  7. Participate in and present in-services to OT staff and others.
  8. Supervise COTA fieldwork students and volunteers.
  9. Promote safety within the department daily and participate in the safety program.
  10. Assist in developing and implementing program development initiatives.
  11. Provide backup for department therapists during absences such as vacations.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to sit for up to thirty minutes, tolerate standing for thirty to forty-five minutes consecutively, and walk on level surfaces, stairs, carpeted surfaces, and ramps for up to thirty minutes consecutively. Ability to lift/move patients up to 200 lbs., push/pull patients weighing up to 200 lbs. Must occasionally stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, and reach above shoulder level. Capable of tactile sensation for feeling muscle spasms, textures, and skin temperature. Ability to hear normal conversation and call bells. Capable of seeing general vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.

EDUCATION:

Two-year associate degree from an accredited occupational therapy assistant program, Pennsylvania license, and certification through AOTCB.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

One-year clinical experience preferred. Current certification in CPR required.
