Summary

The Occupational Therapy Assistant in Home Health is responsible for providing occupational therapy to patients in their homes, aiming to restore them to their fullest physical ability. The Occupational Therapy Assistant performs duties in accordance with policies, procedures, and the established plan of care.

Responsibilities

• Under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, follow all state-specific laws governing occupational therapy in home care, adhere to the treatment plan set by the Occupational Therapist, perform only procedures qualified and trained for, and recommend changes to the plan of care as needed.
• Instruct and assist patients within the scope of practice and according to state laws, following the plan of care.
• Observe, record, and report to the supervising OT, nurse, and/or physician the patient's response to treatment and any changes in condition. Coordinate care with healthcare team members as appropriate.
• Educate patients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare team members about therapy within the scope of the occupational therapy assistant.
• Visit patients within the service area and nearby agencies as needed.
• Complete and submit progress notes for each visit in accordance with agency policy.
• Adhere to LHC Therapy Standards of Practice in providing services.
• Participate in staff meetings and committees as requested.
• Maintain schedule flexibility to provide care as needed, including participation in weekend rotations and observed holidays.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• Current OTA licensure in the state
• Current CPR certification
• Valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and access to reliable transportation
