Summary

The Occupational Therapy Assistant in Home Health is responsible for providing occupational therapy to patients in their homes to restore them to their fullest physical ability. The Occupational Therapy Assistant performs duties in accordance with policies, procedures, and the established plan of care.

Responsibilities

• Under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, follow all state-specific laws governing occupational therapy in home care, adhere to the treatment plan defined by the supervising OT, and perform only those procedures for which qualified and trained. Make recommendations for changes in the plan of care to the supervising OT.
• Instruct and assist patients in evidence-based treatments within the scope of practice for occupational therapy assistants and according to state laws.
• Observe, record, and report to the supervising OT, nurse, and/or physician the patient's response to treatment and any changes in condition. Coordinate care with other healthcare team members as appropriate.
• Instruct patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare team members in therapy-related areas within the occupational therapy assistant's scope of practice.
• Visit patients within the service area and nearby agencies as needed.
• Complete and submit progress notes for each visit as per agency policy, following the plan of treatment.
• Adhere to the organization's Standards of Practice in providing services.
• Participate in staff meetings and committees as requested.
• Maintain schedule flexibility to provide care as needed, including participation in weekend rotations and observed holidays.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

License Requirements

• Current OTA licensure in the state of practice
• Current CPR certification
• Valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and access to a dependable vehicle or public transportation
