Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA)

Position Summary

The COTA provides direct occupational therapy rehab care to patients upon physician referral, under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT), in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Life Care standards.

Education, Experience, And Licensure Requirements
  • NBCOT certified upon hire; renewal is optional thereafter.
  • Graduate of an accredited occupational therapy program (ASOT).
  • Currently registered/licensed in the applicable state; active license in good standing required throughout employment.
  • Preferred: One (1) year experience in post-acute care or related setting.
  • CPR certification upon hire or during orientation; must remain current during employment.
Specific Job Requirements
  • Participate in community health projects as appropriate.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
  • Coordinate with patients, families, and support departments to plan patient needs.
  • Demonstrate proper body mechanics at all times.
  • Make independent decisions when necessary.
  • Knowledge of practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines relevant to post-acute care.
  • Implement and interpret departmental programs, goals, and policies.
  • Perform competently in all competency areas, including patient rights and safety.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues and vendors.
  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary and confidential information.
  • Adhere to company policies, including harassment and compliance procedures.
  • Display integrity and professionalism, completing mandatory training.
Essential Functions
  • Follow occupational treatment plans under OT supervision.
  • Accurately and promptly chart patient information.
  • Use therapy software appropriately.
  • Provide excellent customer service with a positive attitude.
  • Assist in patient evacuation if needed.
  • Maintain dependable, regular attendance.
  • Use reasoning skills and good judgment.
  • Communicate effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Perform physical activities such as sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and walking during work hours.
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English.
