Purpose of Your Job Position
The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant provides direct rehab care in occupational therapy to patients upon physician referral and under the supervision of a Licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Job Functions
This section outlines the essential functions of the position, which may include duties similar or related to those listed below.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow the treatment plan for patients under the direction of the supervising OT.
- Work closely with patients, family members, and other care team members to plan for patient needs, including short-term and long-term goals.
- Verify patient information and confirm purpose of treatment.
- Monitor movements to ensure proper performance and prevent injuries.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and health team members regarding patient progress, barriers, and treatment plans.
- Chart appropriately and timely.
- Assist the OT in patient development, recovery, and improving daily functional skills.
- Demonstrate dependability and regular attendance.
- Utilize good body mechanics at all times.
- Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such actions.

Personnel Functions
- Maintain excellent working relationships within the Therapy team and cross-functionally.
- Report occupational exposures according to facility policies.
- Create a warm, positive, and calm environment throughout the facility.

Staff Development
- Attend and participate in continuing education to stay current in your profession and maintain licenses.
- Attend meetings and in-services as required.
- Complete assigned Relias training timely.

Equipment and Supply Functions
- Recommend equipment and supply needs.
- Check and maintain equipment.
- Clean equipment.
- Ensure supplies are available and used efficiently.
- Ensure safe operation of therapy equipment.

Care Plan and Assessment Functions
- Assist in developing assessments of therapy needs.
- Maintain good rapport with all involved in the care plan.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to patient rights policies.

Miscellaneous
- Use protective clothing/devices for handling infectious waste and fluids.
- Be flexible with schedule to meet department needs.

Working Conditions
- Work in various settings within the facility.
- Move continuously during working hours.
- Be prepared for interruptions and emotional challenges.
- Communicate effectively with staff and patients.
- Work beyond normal hours and participate in emergency call-backs.
