Qualifications

• Current Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) certification.
• Current or eligible Texas Occupational Therapy Assistant license.
• Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
• CPR/BLS certification or ability to obtain as required.
• Strong communication, organizational, clinical, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with older adults and individuals with varying levels of physical, cognitive, and medical needs.
• Previous experience in skilled nursing, rehabilitation, long-term care, or a related setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide occupational therapy services under the direction and supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist.
• Implement individualized treatment plans developed by the Occupational Therapist.
• Assist residents with activities of daily living, including dressing, grooming, bathing, toileting, feeding, and functional mobility.
• Provide therapeutic exercises and activities designed to improve strength, coordination, range of motion, balance, and functional independence.
• Assist residents with fine motor, upper-extremity, cognitive, and functional skills as appropriate.
• Monitor resident response to treatment and communicate progress or changes in condition to the Occupational Therapist and appropriate clinical staff.
• Educate residents and caregivers regarding therapeutic activities, adaptive techniques, safety, and strategies for increasing independence.
• Recommend and assist with appropriate adaptive equipment and techniques as directed by the Occupational Therapist.
• Collaborate with nursing staff, physical therapists, speech therapists, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.
• Complete accurate and timely treatment documentation in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in care planning and communicate resident progress and functional changes.
• Promote resident safety, dignity, independence, and quality of life throughout the rehabilitation process.
• Maintain professional standards and comply with applicable federal, state, and facility requirements.
