Job Summary

The Patient Care Assistant II functions as a member of the patient care team, under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), and proficiently and consistently performs all aspects of the PCA role. Responsibilities include supporting the RN with clinical tasks such as blood glucose monitoring, EKGs, dressing changes, aseptic techniques, and responding to medical emergencies using Heartsaver CPR and AED skills. The PCA II also responds to patient and family needs and participates in the efficient operation of the unit, ensuring adherence to the Patient and Family Centered Care Model.

Essential Functions
Provision of a Safe Environment
  • Identify and mitigate patient safety risks in collaboration with licensed staff.
  • Conduct routine patient rounds and assist with ambulation.
  • Follow restraint policies under supervision and provide 1:1 monitoring for at-risk patients.
  • Adhere to infection control and safety procedures.
Organizational Ethics
  • Promote the organization’s mission and values.
  • Respect cultural diversity and maintain confidentiality.
  • Work cooperatively with staff and adhere to dress code, including wearing ID badges.
Management of Resources
  • Organize time efficiently and prioritize patient needs.
  • Assist colleagues and adapt to changing unit needs.
Management of Information
  • Understand policies and emergency codes.
  • Use hospital email and participate in meetings and in-services.
  • Communicate patient condition updates to the RN and document data accurately.
Collaborative Interdisciplinary

Maintain teamwork in patient care.

Patient/Family Education
  • Provide basic care instructions and support patient comfort and needs.
Competency
  • Comply with standards, policies, and regulations.
  • Maintain technical skills and assist in orientation of new staff.
Quality Improvement
  • Participate in quality initiatives and communicate concerns.
Patient Care
  • Assist with admissions, discharges, transfers, and personal care.
  • Perform vital signs, specimen collection, EKGs, blood glucose monitoring, and documentation.
  • Respond to patient requests promptly and maintain a clean, stocked environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Nursing Assistant license or certification required.
  • Completion of an approved nursing assistant training program and competency in technical skills.
Physical Requirements

Frequent standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, and reaching; ability to perform physical tasks and meet core job demands.

Work Details

Onsite, rotating shifts, part-time, with scheduled weekly hours as per assignment.
