The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) helps residents with activities of daily living, such as hygiene, toileting, feeding, and moving safely. The CNA assists with maintaining the resident environment, including laundry and housekeeping. They remain sensitive to each resident’s needs and strive to improve and enrich their lives.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Adhere to and convey a philosophy that supports the dignity, privacy, independence, choice, and individuality of residents.
• Review resident Service Plans as needed to maintain familiarity with resident services, needs, and preferences.
• Check the Staff Communication log and corresponding resident Service Notes daily for changes in resident service needs and/or health conditions.
• Provide personal services to residents as assigned and as indicated on resident Service Plans.
• Assist residents with medications and/or treatments as noted in the medication book and as permitted by regulation.
• Respond to calls from the emergency call system promptly.
• Demonstrate knowledge of and follow infection control procedures.
• Help with meal services, including setting up tables, serving meals, and cleaning the dining room.
• Assist with housekeeping tasks to keep the environment clean, comfortable, and safe.
• Assist with individual and group social/recreational activities, encouraging resident participation.
• Monitor for changes in resident needs, preferences, or health status; report and document any changes per established procedures.
• Respond to emergencies appropriately, following received training.
• Report any abuse, suspected abuse, or alleged abuse to the appropriate supervisor and/or agencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Physical Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience with seniors preferred.
• Experience performing caregiving tasks preferred.
• Certified as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in this state.
• Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
• Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to resident dignity and privacy.
