Position Overview

The CNA is responsible for providing residents with a high level of caregiving and supporting medical staff in administering care to residents with various needs. Key responsibilities include helping residents bathe, maintain hygiene, feeding, ensuring medication administration, and assessing vital signs while working closely with the neighborhood/house team to meet resident preferences.

Essential Job Functions

• Provides physical care to residents to meet daily needs.
• Acts as the residents’ closest advocate under a professional nurse’s direction.
• Promotes psychosocial well‑being through meaningful relationship building.
• Collaborates with the neighborhood/house team to meet additional social needs.
• Provides support, friendship, compassion, and kindness to all members.
• Plans and facilitates social activities for residents.
• Attends to dietary and nutritional needs, creating a pleasant dining experience.
• Participates and leads in the dining process, including serving and cleanup.
• Respects residents’ rooms as their home and assists them in having control.
• Creates a healthy, happy environment and facilitates pleasure and fun.
• Maintains a clean, safe environment for residents.
• Handles residents’ personal laundry.
• Prepares each resident’s room with necessary items.
• Assists housekeeping with cleaning tasks as needed.
• Provides personal hygiene and care, organizing supplies.
• Monitors vitals and behavior, reporting to nursing and medical leaders.
• Transfers residents with low mobility between wheelchair and bed.
• Turns or adjusts residents to prevent bedsores.
• Supports self‑care and provides care per the Plan of Care.
• Encourages participation in activities and social contacts.
• Follows standard precautions, infection control, and safety standards.
• Provides restorative therapy under therapy professionals’ leadership.
• Observes residents closely, reporting changes immediately.
• Participates actively in care planning and conferences.
• Maintains documentation.

Qualifications and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate of a state‑approved program for nursing assistants; valid CNA license required.
• Proficiency in reading and understanding Resident Plans of Care.
• Understanding of quality of care and life objectives.
• Competency evaluated, tested, and registered with the state of Kansas.
• Minimum age 16 years.
• Spanish bilingual capabilities are a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to hear and understand resident requests.
• Ability to read accurately and retain information.
• Capacity to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to withstand extreme temperatures, hot and cold.
• Capacity to work long hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, as needed.
• Ability to stand or sit for long periods (4 hours or more).
• Regular speaking, listening, sitting, standing, walking; use of hands and arms for touching, handling, reaching, lifting, and pulling.
