Job Description:
The Certified Medical Assistant II works alongside Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers to provide direct patient care according to state and federal guidelines. This position plays an important role in the ambulatory setting by performing clinical and administrative duties and helping patients feel at ease while understanding provider instructions.

- Provides direct patient care: taking vitals, patient history, venipuncture, lab, x-ray, referrals, and managing patient phone messages as directed by the provider and/or clinical supervisor.
- Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals based on patient contact level.
- Assesses and re-assesses patients.
- Monitors and documents patient status.
- Handles large call volume while maintaining excellent telephone etiquette.
- Organizes workflow to meet patient needs promptly.
- Retrieves and transports medications, instruments, and supplies as needed.
- Works with moderate exposure to hazards, including infections, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment, and chemicals, following standard precautions.
- Stocks exam rooms, manages inventory, and orders supplies.
- Coordinates scheduling with other healthcare professionals and facilities.
- Assists with procedures, maintaining sterile fields and proper specimen labeling.
- Gathers and documents patient information: lab values, pain levels, education needs, nutritional status, and potential complications.
- Performs sterilization and high-level disinfection of scopes, probes, instruments, and equipment per manufacturer instructions.
- Participates in developing and evaluating the plan of care, including medication administration (excluding narcotics) as directed by a physician or PA.
- Reinforces patient education on medications, post-surgical care, diets, and treatment changes.
- Handles prescription refills as directed.
- Coordinates hospital admissions and patient care services.
- May precept new medical assistants.
- Participates in compliance audits, chart checks, and safety reporting.
- De-escalates patient concerns.
Minimum Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program preferred.
Experience: 3-5 years in patient care as a Medical Assistant or similar role required.
License/Certification/Registration: BLS certification required upon hire. Additionally, one of the following certifications is required:
- Medical Assistant - AMT
- Registered Medical Assistant - American Medical Personnel
- Registered Medical Assistant - American Allied Health
- Certified Medical Assistant - AAMA
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant - NHC
- National Certified Medical Assistant - NCCT
- Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant - NAPH
