Job Description:

This position may be filled as Certified Medical Assistant I, II, or III, depending on experience, expertise, and qualifications.

The Medical Support Assistant works alongside Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers to provide direct patient care according to state and federal guidelines. This role involves clinical and administrative duties, helping patients feel at ease and understand provider instructions.

Essential Responsibilities

Responsibilities listed here are core to the position. Inability to perform these responsibilities may result in disqualification.

  1. Provides direct patient care by taking vitals, patient history, referrals, and patient phone messages under supervision.
  2. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate.
  3. Assists in patient assessment and re-assessment.
  4. Monitors and documents patient status.
  5. Manages call volume with excellent etiquette.
  6. Organizes workflow to meet patient needs.
  7. Retrieves and transports instruments and supplies as needed.
  8. Follows standard precautions to minimize risks.
  9. Stocks exam rooms, manages inventory, and orders supplies.
  10. Coordinates scheduling with healthcare professionals.
  11. Assists with procedures, maintaining sterile fields and proper specimen labeling.
  12. Gathers and documents patient condition information.
  13. Performs sterilization and disinfection of scopes and instruments.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Certified Medical Assistant I
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED; Medical Assistant Program preferred.
  • Experience: 0-3 years in patient care preferred.
  • Certification: BLS required; one of several specific Medical Assistant certifications required upon hire.
Certified Medical Assistant II
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED; Medical Assistant Program preferred.
  • Experience: 3-5 years in patient care required.
  • Certification: BLS required; one of several specific Medical Assistant certifications required upon hire.
Certified Medical Assistant III
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED; Medical Assistant Program preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years in patient care required.
  • Certification: BLS required; one of several specific Medical Assistant certifications required upon hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Professional interaction with healthcare practitioners and patients.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to observe and gather relevant information.
  • Teamwork ability.
  • Attention to detail and task completion.
  • Composure in difficult situations.
  • Sensitivity to patient needs.
