Qualifications

• Must have completed a state-approved medication administration program.
• Must carry current acknowledgment card or certification from state agency.
• Must be willing to abide by restrictions placed on the job by the state agency.
• Must be a certified nursing assistant (CNA).

Responsibilities

• Administers PRN medications after authorization by licensed nurse or physician.
• Organizes medication duties to pour, pass, and document routine meds and PRN meds as instructed.
• Document all PRNs according to State Standards in the resident chart.
• Observe and report reactions and side effects of medications to the licensed nurse.
• Take and record vital signs before medications that may affect vitals.
• Prepare and document medications there-after administration in the resident record.
• Administer oxygen in an emergency and notify the nurse, with proper documentation.
• Count narcotics as directed by the charge nurse and record on appropriate sheets.
