Description

Primary Responsibilities

The Certified Medication Aide will prepare, administer, and document prescribed medications per protocol.

Essential Functions
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments as defined by state regulations in accordance with company policy and procedure.
  • Observe and report reactions and side-effects to medication shown by a resident to the charge nurse.
  • Take and record vital signs prior to administering medication that could affect vital signs.
  • Report to charge nurse and document reasons for not administering prescribed drugs.
  • Administer regularly prescribed medication only after personally preparing (setting up) it, and document the administration in the resident's medication record.
  • Administer oxygen in emergencies, notify the licensed nurse immediately after, and document appropriately.
  • Apply ordered ophthalmic, otic, nasal, and vaginal medications.
  • Follow principles of good medication administration accurately.
  • Assist with daily care tasks such as bathing, feeding, dressing, and transferring residents, including lifting and responding to calls.
  • Help maintain cleanliness of nursing station, medication room, and supply room.
Qualifications

Educational/Training Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Licensing Requirements

  • Successful completion of State Approved Medication Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program. Good standing in the state registry required.

Experience Requirements

  • Preferred one (1) year of healthcare experience.
  • Knowledge of Universal Precautions and Blood Borne Pathogen rules.
