Job summary

Compass Memorial Health in Iowa seeks a skilled Medical Coder in the Health Information Management department. You will convert diagnoses and procedures into ICD-10-CM, CPT-4 and HCPCS codes, ensuring accurate sequencing for optimal reimbursement and timely patient episode coding.

Primary duties include following Epic workflows, performing medical necessity checks, and maintaining high-quality coding with strict adherence to guidelines.

Qualifications

• Credentialed RHIT, RHIA, CCS or AHIMA-recognized coding certification; at hire or within 6 months.
• Prefer two (2) or more years' experience in hospital and physicians coding.
• Knowledge of ICD-9-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS coding guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Works coding-related account work queues and claim edit work queues as directed by Revenue Cycle Manager.
• Follows Epic coding and charging workflow guidelines per training and as directed by Revenue Cycle Manager.
• Performs medical necessity checks using CMS website for Medicare tests when applicable.
• Verify charges are appropriate while coding.
• Codes all diagnoses and procedures according to ICD-10-CM, CPT-4 and HCPCS guidelines.
• Meets productivity: codes assigned within 5 days outpatient, 7 days inpatient/other services.
