Job summary

Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists in Spokane, WA is seeking a Certified Medical Coder to support providers and facilities by coding with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS. This non-remote role ensures documentation supports billed services and complies with HIPAA.

The coder will coordinate with clinical staff for charge data, maintain billing records, and help with payer communication. CPC or COSC certification and high school diploma are required; 2 years in a medical office preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of modern office equipment including fax machines, copiers, scanners, etc.

Responsibilities

• Verifies documentation and completes charge information to produces accurate billings according to organizational policies.
• Maintains required billing records, reports, files, etc.
• Works closely with staff to ensure accurate collection of insurance information, referrals, and payments.
• Adheres to HIPAA guidelines/regulations.

NWOS is hiring a Certified Medical Coder. The Certified Medical Coder serves as support for the providers and/or facilities of NWOS. The Certified Medical Coder ensures claims are coded accurately using appropriate codes from classification systems like ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS. The Certified Medical Coder ensures that medical documentation supports the services billed and complies with legal and regulatory standards. This is not a remote position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• It is the expectation of all NWOS employees to demonstrate, uphold and educate staff on all 19 NWOS Fundamentals.
• Coordinates with clinical staff to get complete charge information for all encounters.
• Codes information on procedures performed while ensuring proper use of CPT, ICD10, and modifiers.
• Verifies documentation and completes charge information to produces accurate billings according to organizational policies.
• Works closely with staff to ensure accurate collection of insurance information, referrals, and payments.
• Corrects and resubmits claims as needed to ensure accurate payments.
• Maintains required billing records, reports, files, etc.
• Provides excellent customer service to patients, clerical staff, and insurance companies, communicating in a positive and professional manner.
• Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints.
• Ensures that Accounts Receivable is kept current according to organizational benchmarks.
• Adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• CPC (Certified Professional Coder) and/or COSC (Certified Orthopedic Surgery Coder)
• High School Graduate or equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATOINS:

• Minimum of 2 years in a medical office, billing or coding role. CPC or COSC certification may be considered in lieu of experience.
