Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Assistant to support the care team. Under supervision, you coordinate patient care, room patients, record vitals, histories, smoking and medication screening, and assist with exams and procedures.

You will maintain accurate EHR documentation, prepare exam rooms, manage supplies, may travel between locations, and ensure compliance with HIPAA and QA policies. Certification in MA and CPR preferred; high school diploma required.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School / GED or Completion of a Medical Assistant Program.
• Certification requirements: Employees who have graduated from a medical assistant program within five years OR proof of one year of work experience as a medical assistant in the last three years must complete certification training and/or attempt testing within 30 days of hire and must obtain certification within 120 days of hire.
• Accepted Medical Assistant Certification (NHA, AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA)
• Employees who have not met the above certification criteria may have the opportunity to sit for a company proctored certification exam when qualified.
• Preferred Associate's Degree
• Additional Employment Requirements: CPR – American Heart Association Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Responsibilities

• Assists in coordinating patient care under supervision of the health care provider.
• Prepares and rooms patients in the clinical setting according to workflow.
• Obtains and documents patient vitals, history, tobacco and medications.
• May assist with depression screening tools and wellness visit screenings.
• Reviews and updates medication lists in the EHR.
• Performs back office testing following AHN protocols.
• Assists providers with examinations and procedures; may serve as a scribe with training.
• Maintains patient follow-up communication per provider instructions.
• Prepares exam rooms and manages inventory of medical supplies.
• Cleans and sterilizes instruments and conducts lab controls as assigned.
• Documents accurately in the EHR and performs clerical duties as needed.
• May float between physician office locations.
