Job summary

UF Health is seeking a professional Medical Assistant to support clinical and administrative tasks under supervision of a licensed physician.

Responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting records, assisting with examinations, and coordinating patient care while delivering excellent customer service.

Preferred qualifications include CMA certification or within 6 months, BLS, and a High School Diploma; prior healthcare experience is advantageous.

Qualifications

• 1-year - Medical assistant – preferred
• 2– 4 years clerical/customer service experience, ideally in a health care related industry -preferred
• 1-year experience with third party payors, and computer experience for imputing data andreviewing - preferred
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) required - or within 6 months
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required - at time of hire-American Red Cross or American Heart Association
• Medical Terminology Certificate preferred - at time of hire
• A requirement of having completed an MA program that is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, a national or state medical association, or an agency approved by the board
• High School Diploma / GED Required at time of hire

Responsibilities

• Take patient's vital signs. Prepare patients for the provider's care. Assist with patient examinations or treatments
• Correctly document all entries in the medical record, either electronic or hard copy, to include signature, date and time.
• Administer medication as directed by and under the direct supervision of licensed physician
• Observe and report patients' signs or symptoms. Collectroutine laboratory specimens as directed by the provider.
• Administer basic first aid.
• Participates in performance improvement projects.
• Participates as an active care team member in thecoordination of patient care.
• Provides a standard of excellence as it relates to customerservice for patients, staff members, and other customers
