Job description

Job Overview

Essex Hudson Urology is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to perform routine clinical and clerical tasks under the supervision of a physician or healthcare practitioner. Responsibilities include taking vital signs, recording medical histories, preparing patients for examinations, drawing blood, processing prescriptions, and assisting with minor procedures. The CMA also enhances patient experience, safety, and privacy as a practice ambassador.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 6 months of relevant experience or training, or equivalent education and experience

Preferred:

  • Phlebotomy and EKG skills
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish/Portuguese
  • Knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR) systems
Certifications and Licenses
  • BLS Certification approved by the American Heart Association
  • Medical Assistant Certification from NHA, NCCT, AMT, AAMA, NCMA, AMCA, AECA, or NAHP
Scheduling Requirements
  • Work hours: 8:30am - 5:00pm or 9:00am - 6:00pm, with one late night (11:00am - 8:00pm)
  • Monday to Friday
  • 1-2 Saturdays per month
  • Full-Time position
  • Local travel to Bloomfield, Irvington, and Lyndhurst may be required
Essential Functions
  • Perform clinical tasks such as EKGs, hearing and vision screenings, urinalysis, injections, vaccinations, medication administration, treatments, and minor surgeries
  • Handle clerical duties including answering phones, scheduling, insurance verification, collecting co-pays, and preparing lab requests
  • Communicate with insurance providers for pre-authorizations and certifications
  • Prepare examination rooms and maintain a clean environment
  • Room patients, verify information, record vitals, and update medical histories
  • Communicate with patients and providers as instructed by the overseeing physician or practitioner
  • Maintain and organize health records
  • Perform other duties as assigned
