Job summary

UNC Health Care in Caldwell Memorial Hospital outpatient clinic seeks a Medical Assistant I, Certified to provide routine clinical and administrative support under supervision. This full-time role (36 hours/week onsite) is based in Lenoir, NC and covers rooming patients, vital signs, basic phlebotomy and patient instructions.

Education: a Medical Assisting program is preferred; MA certification from AAMA/AMT/NCMA; BLS from AHA/ARC required.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Medical Assisting program is strongly preferred but not required.
• Medical Assistant certification from AAMA, AMT, NCMA, NRCMA, or NCMA is required.
• Basic Life Support certification from AHA or ARC required.
• Prior MA experience or externship preferred.
• Ability to document information in the EMR.

Responsibilities

• Performs rooming and intake, including vital signs and patient data.
• Collects patient history and medication/allergy information.
• Reviews current medications and allergies.
• Assists provider during treatments and procedures.
• Performs phlebotomy and prepares specimens.
• Delivers medications under supervision.
• Conducts tests like EKG and eye exams under supervision.
• Verifies need for routine health screenings.
• Ensures exam rooms are stocked and ready.
• Provides post-visit instructions and educational materials.
• Maintains exam and treatment rooms; cleans equipment.
• Supports registration, scheduling, and referrals.
• Answers calls and assists in-basket under supervision.
• Assists in emergencies as directed.
