Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a qualified Medical Assistant I, Certified for an outpatient clinic in Lenoir, NC. You will support providers with rooming, vital signs, phlebotomy, medication administration, and patient education, under supervision.

Strong communication, teamwork, and computer skills are required. Certification as a Medical Assistant and BLS are required or strongly preferred; the role is full-time with 40 hours per week onsite.

Qualifications

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to engage positively with patients and families and to work as a team.
• Ability to use a computer to document required information into the electronic medical record.

Responsibilities

• Performs rooming and/or intake process, collecting vital signs and patient data.
• Collects patient and family medical history and social history.
• Reviews medication list, allergies, and pharmacy preferences.
• Assists provider during treatments, examinations, and procedures.
• Collects specimens and performs phlebotomy.
• Administers medications under provider direction.
• Performs tests such as EKG or eye exams under provider direction.
• Ensures exam rooms have supplies and educational materials.
• Provides post-visit instructions and educational materials.
• Prepares, cleans, and stocks exam and treatment rooms.
• Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
• Assists with patient registration, scheduling, and referrals.
• Answers clinic calls and assists in-basket under provider direction.
