Job summary

CommonSpirit Health is seeking a Histotechnician to prepare human tissue for microscopic analysis, including sectioning, staining, and slide preparation, with accurate accessioning and clerical support.

You will assist pathologists, maintain records, ensure proper chemical handling and LIS operation, and deliver timely lab reports. The role supports Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center within our health system, emphasizing patient‑centered care and safety.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Histotechnician/Histotechnologist program.
• HS with biology and chemistry + histopathology experience within last 5 years.
• Associates degree with biology/chemistry hours + histopathology experience.
• High School diploma with 2+ years histology experience in lieu of degree.
• Histotechnician certification (HT) by ASCP preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receives, accessions tissues using histological techniques; labeling, fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining, coverslipping.
• Sections and stains specimens for routine and special studies; prepares stains and reagents.
• Prioritizes work and meets laboratory turnaround time standards; uses time efficiently.
• Assists pathologists within scope of practice.
• Monitors inventory and assists in ordering; logs reagents and supplies in the lab.
• Demonstrates competency operating, troubleshooting and maintaining equipment.
