Job summary

Memorial Medical Center, part of Lifepoint Health, seeks a Certified First Assistant to join our 12-bed OR in Las Cruces, NM. This FT days position supports general, bariatric, orthopedic and urology surgeries in a collaborative team.

You’ll position patients, improve exposure, assist with hemostasis, tissue handling and wound care, and help secure drains. CSFA and BLS required; Associate’s degree preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree preferred; program completion required.
• CSFA certification with NBSTSA required.
• BLS certification required.
• Graduate of a surgical First Assistant program or discipline.

Responsibilities

• Position patient to optimize exposure for procedures.
• Assist with visualization, retraction, suction and irrigation.
• Assist with hemostasis and wound closure and drain management.

Department/Unit Summary

Join our team in a 12-bed OR unit, located on the 1st floor, where you will provide compassionate care to patients alongside a dedicated team of RNs, CSTs and FAs. You will play a crucial role in assisting our patients in general surgery, bariatrics surgery, orthopedic and urological procedures. This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment focused on delivering high-quality patient care.

How you'll contribute:

A Certified First Assistant who excels in this role:

• Positions patient to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
• Provides visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.
• Utilizes appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
• Assists with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.

Shift: 6:30A-3:00P or 6:30A-5:00P or 6:30A-7:00P 8s,10s, or 12s

What we're looking for:

• Education: Associate's Degree Preferred; Graduate of a Program in Discipline Required
• License: Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) with the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS)
