Job summary

Memorial Medical Center Las Cruces in Las Cruces, NM, is seeking a Certified First Assistant (CFA) to join our 12-bed operating room on the 1st floor, supporting a range of procedures including general, bariatric, orthopedic and urological surgeries.

This full-time day-shift role emphasizes patient positioning, visualization of the operative field, and achieving hemostasis in a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher preferred for surgical assistance.
  • CSFA certification required by NBSTSA.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Positions patient to maximize exposure and comfort during procedures.
  • Provides visualization of operative site using appropriate techniques.
  • Assists with hemostasis, wound management, and drainage systems.
  • Supports body plane closure and post-operative dressings.

Education

Associate's degree preferred
Graduate of a program in discipline required

Department/Unit Summary

Join our team in a 12‑bed OR unit, located on the 1st floor, where you will provide compassionate care to patients alongside a dedicated team of RNs, CSTs and FAs. You will play a crucial role in assisting our patients in general surgery, bariatrics surgery, orthopedic and urological procedures. This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment focused on delivering high‑quality patient care.

How You'll Contribute

A Certified First Assistant who excels in this role:

  • Positions patient to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
  • Provides visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.
  • Utilizes appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
  • Assists with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.

What We're Looking For
  • Education: Associate's Degree Preferred; Graduate of a Program in Discipline Required
  • License: Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) with the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS)
