Job summary

Memorial Medical Center Las Cruces is seeking a Senior Central Sterile Technician for a full-time mid-shift role. You will supervise daily sterile processing, train staff, and ensure instruments meet safety standards, collaborating with RNs and other CSTs.

On-call rotation is required. The ideal candidate brings CRCST certification, BLS, five years of related experience, and a commitment to quality care in a busy OR setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Five years of relevant experience preferred.
• Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) and Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Responsibilities

• Direct staffing assignments and monitor daily levels.
• Provide training, coaching, and performance feedback to staff.
• Ensure compliance with policies and procedures in sterile processing.
• Perform instrument decontamination, assembly, and sterilization per guidelines.
• Maintain documentation and monitor sterilization indicators.
• Support OR operations and coordinate with team for efficient cases.

Job Title: Senior Central Sterile Tech

Schedule: FT Mid Shift

Full-time mid shift.

Department/Unit Summary

Join our team in a 12-bed OR unit, located on the 1st floor, where you will provide compassionate care to patients alongside a dedicated team of RNs, CSTs and FAs. You will play a crucial role in assisting our patients in general surgery, bariatrics surgery, orthopedic and urological procedures. This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment focused on delivering high-quality patient care.

How You’ll Contribute

• Determines, coordinates and supervises daily staffing assignments and levels.
• Provides direction, orientation, training, coaching, and mentoring to staff.
• Performs or assists with performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
• Assess and ensures quality of services delivered and facilitates staff development programs.
• Ensures staff compliance with departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Performs staff responsibilities as needed to fulfill required service levels.
• Leads the handling and resolution of complex issues and complaints.
• Provides inspection, decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of instruments and other patient care equipment in accordance with processing guidelines, AAMI, AORN, TJC, and OSHA requirements.
• Operates departmental equipment daily according to manufacturer instructions with emphasis on safety.
• Processes and documents all sterile supplies and equipment daily using chemical, biological and mechanical indicators to verify sterility in accordance with manufacturer instructions and hospital policy.
• Monitors and performs antimicrobial and disinfection solutions testing according to manufacturer instructions and documentation daily.
• Preforms needed clerical tasks, including copying, filing, and ordering/stocking supplies for the entire department.
• Assist the OR Coordinator with staff education/ organizing in-services as needed.
• Helps to identify and implement process improvement initiatives.
• Provides monitoring and evaluation of vendors coming in and out of the department. Also appropriately delegates and communicates necessary information for pending cases.
• Takes call as determined by the department director.
• Serves as a resource to the department for quality/auditing purposes.

Shift:

11a-7p or 12p-8p mid shift. On call required rotation.

What We’re Looking For

High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous leadership experience. Five years of relevant experience. Licenses: Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician CRCST. Basic Life Support (BLS).
