Job summary

Petco is seeking a Certified Dog Trainer to advance its mission of pet health and wellness. You will conduct one-on-one and group training, advise on nutrition and essentials, and engage guests with personalized solutions across care centers.

You will participate in a structured training path, support store operations, and promote products and services that improve pet well-being. This role emphasizes safety, customer service, and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with pet parents and provide clear demonstrations.
• Demonstrated ability to handle and work with dogs of all sizes, ages, and breeds in a safe and humane manner.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities.
• Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed to accommodate the training schedule and store operations.
• Physical stamina to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds of training equipment and supplies.
• Familiarity with computer systems and software to manage training records and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Attend and pass Petco’s 6-week Dog Trainer Instructor Program.
• Complete all DTIP modules and workbook materials per the roadmap.
• Recommend and sell appropriate dog training classes and supplies.
• Keep accurate records of training sessions and feedback.
• Work cross-functionally with grooming and veterinary teams for holistic care.
• Provide 360-degree solutions for guests and pets, including guidance on health and wellness.
