Job summary

City of Fort Lauderdale is seeking a Building Inspector to examine residential, commercial, and industrial installations for compliance with the Florida Building Code and HVHZ. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, a CGC license, and a Florida Building Inspector license within one year.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Valid Florida driver license within 30 days of hire.
• Certified General Contractor (CGC) license in good standing.
• Florida Building Inspector license must be obtained within one year.
• Certifications/licenses must be kept current to continue employment.
• Veterans’ Preference: attach DD214 and disability documentation if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Inspects new and existing building installations to ensure adherence to the FBC, HVHZ, safety standards, local laws and ordinances.
• Confers with architects, engineers, contractors, attorneys, property owners on inspections and code matters.
• Inspects alteration and repair jobs; checks roof and foundation connections for additions.
• Cites applicable codes to enforce compliance and issues Stop Work Orders when needed.
• Maintains inspection records and enters inspection data and documents into city systems.
• Posts Notices of Violation and issues related notices under City Ordinances.
• Performs related work as required.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Valid Florida driver's license within 30 days

Certified General Contractor (CGC)

Florida Building Inspector License within 1 year

Licenses must be kept current

Veterans’ Preference - DD214 and disability documentation
