Job summary

City of Oakland Park is seeking a journey-level inspector to enforce the Florida Building Code across structural, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing trades. The role involves in-field inspections of work progress and completed projects to ensure safety and code compliance.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, a valid Florida driver’s license, and certification per the Florida Building Code ( Broward County amendments) for trades.

Qualifications

  • Must read and interpret construction plans and apply building codes
  • Extensive knowledge of Florida building codes and regulations
  • Able to enforce regulations with tact and good judgment
  • Maintain and update inspection records and reports

Responsibilities

  • Perform systematic site inspections for conformance with City, State, and Federal codes
  • Inspect construction in progress or completed work under permits
  • Issue violations and re-inspect after corrections
  • Consult with architects, engineers, contractors, and homeowners
  • Identify compliance problems and explain city codes to violators
  • Investigate complaints and determine validity of claims
  • Coordinate with Building Official and Chief Inspector on unresolved issues
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory developments and recertification requirements
  • Assist and support technical Inspectors with moderately complex issues
