The Ceramics / Materials Science Front End (FE) Process Engineer is responsible for supporting front-end ceramic processing and manufacturing. This includes maintaining manufacturing processes, improving quality, increasing throughput, and achieving higher yields. The focus is on all aspects of plate manufacturing through firing and finishing.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and lead tasks, projects, and processes for ceramic plate fabrication, including batching, casting, green plate fabrication, bakeout, firing, and finishing.
- Drive yield improvements and process efficiency.
- Implement proper data collection and statistical process control.
- Guide process improvements through expertise and data analysis.
- Collaborate with Ceramics, Process Transfer Teams, and Front End Operations Management.
- Work with back-end processing engineers to ensure process improvements are integrated into final products.
- Develop and execute qualification plans for process improvements and new equipment.
- Update operators and technicians on procedures, production, and quality issues.
- Train and transfer skills to operators, engineers, and technicians.
- Research new suppliers and technologies to enhance production, quality, and cost-efficiency.
- Assess the impact of Preventative Maintenance on yield and quality, and coordinate P.M. schedules.
- Assist in procurement and maintenance planning for spare parts and equipment.
- Update procedures based on process, engineering, and environmental changes.
- Implement FMEA, SPC, and MSA processes.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
- BSc or MSc in engineering, industrial engineering, materials science, ceramics, or process engineering.
- Strong data management and statistical evaluation skills.
- Self-motivated, professional, and collaborative.
- Experience in process transfer and quality environments like Six Sigma.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
