The CSST is responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and storage of surgical instruments and equipment used in orthopedic procedures, ensuring instruments are properly processed and available for each case.ResponsibilitiesDecontaminate, clean, and inspect surgical instruments and orthopedic trays following each useAssemble and package instrument sets and specialty orthopedic trays (total joint sets, power equipment, arthroscopy instruments) according to count sheetsOperate and maintain sterilization equipment (steam autoclaves, low-temperature sterilizers) per manufacturer and regulatory guidelinesPerform biological, chemical, and mechanical sterilization monitoring and maintain related documentation/logsTrack instrument counts, loaner trays, and implant inventory in coordination with OR staff and vendor representativesMaintain proper storage and inventory of sterile supplies and instrumentationIdentify and report damaged or malfunctioning instruments for repairEnsure compliance with AAMI and AORN standards for sterile processingSupport case cart preparation and turnover for scheduled orthopedic proceduresMaintain a clean, organized, and safe sterile processing departmentExperience/Education/Licensing.Minimum 1 year of central sterile processing experience preferred; orthopedic instrumentation experience a strong plusKnowledge of sterilization techniques, instrument identification, and infection control standardsHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredCertified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification preferredBLS preferredPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25–35 lbs., and work with high-heat sterilization equipment and chemical disinfectants.
