Job summary

The Center for Advanced Orthopedics in Lenexa is seeking an experienced Surgical Radiologic Technologist to deliver intraoperative imaging using C-arm fluoroscopy and portable X-ray during orthopedic procedures. You will work directly alongside surgeons, anesthesia, and OR staff to ensure high-quality images while minimizing radiation exposure.

This role requires knowledge of fracture fixation, total joint, arthroscopy, and implants imaging views.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of surgical C-arm experience, ideally in orthopedics.
• Strong knowledge of C-arm operation and radiation safety.
• Experience with portable radiography and DR systems.
• Familiarity with orthopedic implants imaging views.
• Ambulatory surgery center or high-turnover OR experience preferred.
• Current ARRT registration and state radiologic license.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications.

Responsibilities

• Operate large and mini C-arm fluoroscopy during procedures.
• Run portable X-ray unit for intraoperative and post-op images.
• Maintain sterile field and minimize radiation exposure per ALARA.
• Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesia, and OR staff.
• Document fluoroscopy time and dose; transmit images to PACS.
• Participate in dosimetry and radiation safety program requirements.
• Assist with OR turnover and general support tasks.

This role works directly alongside surgeons, anesthesia, and OR staff to deliver accurate, timely images while keeping radiation exposure as low as reasonably achievable for patients and staff.ResponsibilitiesOperate large and mini C-arm fluoroscopy units during procedures such as fracture fixation (ORIF), arthroscopy, total joint replacement, hand and foot/ankle surgery, spine procedures, and pain management injections.Operate the portable X-ray unit to obtain intraoperative and post-operative radiographs, including implant and hardware confirmation films for total joints, fracture fixation, and other cases.Perform portable exams in pre-op and PACU as ordered, coordinating timing with nursing and anesthesia so patient flow and discharge aren't delayed.Anticipate surgeon imaging needs by learning each surgeon's preferences, procedure flow, and required views.Position equipment and assist with patient positioning to obtain diagnostic-quality images with minimal repeats.Maintain awareness of the sterile field at all times, including draping the C-arm and moving equipment without contamination.Apply ALARA principles and enforce radiation safety practices, including lead aprons, thyroid shields, distance, and signage for all personnel in the room.Save, label, and transmit images to PACS and the patient record accurately, and document fluoroscopy time and dose as required.Perform daily equipment checks, basic troubleshooting, and cleaning, and coordinate service with biomedical or vendor support when needed.Participate in dosimetry monitoring, radiation safety program requirements, and state or accreditation compliance (e.g., AAAHC or Joint Commission).Help with OR turnover and general support tasks as needed in a small-team environment.Experience/Education/Licensing.Working knowledge of C-arm operation and radiation protection principles (required).One or more years of surgical C-arm experience, ideally in orthopedics.Experience with portable radiography, including DR systems and post-op orthopedic imaging.Familiarity with orthopedic anatomy, implants, and common procedure imaging views.Experience in an ambulatory surgery center or other fast-paced, high-turnover OR setting.Graduate of a JRCERT-accredited radiologic technology program.Current ARRT registration in Radiography (R).Current state radiologic technologist licenseCurrent BLS certification.ACLS certification.We provide a robust benefits package, including:Rich PTO Accruals6 company paid holidaysFull benefits package including medical, dental and vision401(k) with a company matchEmployer paid life insurance and long term disabilityMany other voluntary benefits available
