Job summary

Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance is seeking an experienced OR Registered Nurse (PRN) for our Lenexa ambulatory surgery center. The RN will circulate orthopedic cases, verify pre-op data, maintain sterile technique, and support safe patient turnover in a fast-paced ASC environment.

Requirements include a Kansas RN license, BLS, and 2 years OR nursing experience; ACLS/CNOR preferred. Associates or Bachelors in Nursing and orthopedic instrumentation knowledge are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years OR nursing experience required; orthopedic/ASC experience strongly preferred.
• Current Kansas RN license (or compact) and valid BLS; ACLS and CNOR preferred.
• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required.

Responsibilities

• Circulate for orthopedic surgical cases and maintain sterile technique.
• Assist with patient assessment, positioning, documentation, and intraoperative care.
• Coordinate with surgical team and PACU for smooth handoff and turnover.
• Ensure infection control standards and proper equipment handling between cases.

The OR RN functions as a circulator, ensuring patient safety, infection control, and efficient case flow in a fast-paced ASC environment, and shares responsibility for turning over the OR and cleaning between cases.**Responsibilities*** Circulate for orthopedic surgical cases (total joints, arthroscopy, spine, foot/ankle, hand/wrist, etc.)* Perform pre-operative patient assessment, verification, and site marking confirmation per protocol* Maintain sterile technique and a safe, organized OR environment* Manage surgical positioning, including specialty positioning for joint procedures* Anticipate surgeon needs and coordinate with scrub tech and surgical team* Accurately document intraoperative care, implants, and supplies used (including implant log/tracking for joint replacements)* Manage specimen handling and labeling* Monitor patient status and hemodynamics throughout the procedure* Coordinate with PACU for smooth patient handoff using SBAR* Participate in surgical counts (sponge, sharps, instrument) per policy* Ensure proper handling and turnover of orthopedic equipment (power tools, C-arm, tourniquets, traction devices)* Perform or oversee OR turnover between cases, including terminal cleaning of surfaces, equipment, and the surgical suite to meet infection control and case-time standards* Maintain compliance with AORN/TJC/state ASC accreditation and infection control standards## Qualifications**Experience/Education/Licensing.*** Minimum 2 years OR nursing experience required; orthopedic/ASC experience strongly preferred* Experience with total joint replacement instrumentation and implants a plus* Current Kansas RN license (or compact license)* Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing* BLS required; ACLS preferred* CNOR certification preferred**Physical Requirements*** Ability to stand for extended periods, lift/position patients (up to 50 lbs. with assistance), and work in a fast-paced surgical environment, including room turnover and cleaning duties between cases.
