Job summary

England‑Thims & Miller, Inc. seeks an Area Leader for our Transportation Group in Central Florida to guide complex roadway infrastructure design for FDOT and local agencies.

This senior role drives growth, client relations, and high-quality project delivery from concept through construction support. The ideal candidate will manage budgets and staffing, mentor engineers, and lead multidisciplinary teams to win follow-on work while expanding our Orlando presence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.).
• Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in transportation engineering, with significant experience in project management of roadway design projects.
• Significant experience leading pursuit efforts, developing proposals, and participating in interviews.
• Demonstrated experience managing budgets, schedules, teams, and client communications on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong knowledge of FDOT design standards, permitting requirements, and public‑sector project delivery.
• Prior experience mentoring junior staff and leading internal technical teams.
• Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Operate the transportation group including business development, client engagement, backlog growth, and revenue generation.
• Oversee design engineers and technicians in highway and traffic projects; provide senior technical oversight for calculations, reports, plans, and specifications.
• Lead projects through planning, feasibility, preliminary engineering, final design, permitting, bidding, and construction phase services; develop scopes, schedules, budgets, and staffing plans.
• Serve as primary client contact; develop and maintain strong relationships with public-sector clients.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including survey, environmental, geotechnical, and GIS support staff.
• Identify opportunities for follow-on work; assist with proposals and interviews; lead growth initiatives.
• Recruit project engineers, designers, and support staff to build Orlando team; mentor staff.
