Summary: Provides oversight to the daily operations of the School Age Center and the youth development staff. Responsible for ensuring that all daily activities are culturally relevant and provide a high-quality educational experience. In a team environment, plans, organizes, and implements programs and activities that support youth development outcomes that include arts, language and culture, technology, education, fitness, health, leadership, and service.
Education Requirements and Experience:
- A.A. in Child Development, Elementary Education, Child Guidance, Human Services, Physical Education, Recreation, Child Psychology, Sociology, or Early Childhood Education, and a minimum of one year of experience working with school-age children in a center setting is preferred.
- If no equivalent education, must have a minimum of three years working in a school-age setting and at least six months of administrative experience or evidence of satisfactory completion of 9 credits in management or administration subject areas from an accredited institution of Higher education.
- Demonstrated experience in staff supervision
- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience.

- Demonstrated commitment to Ojibwe-Anishinaabe culture, language and revitalization efforts.
- Possess an understanding and sensitivity and passion to work with Anishinaabe children, families and communities.
- With increasing frequency and skill, speak Ojibwe. Ojibwe language proficiency preferred.
- Demonstrates increasing knowledge and practice of Ojibwe-Anishinaabe lifeways and practices.
- Active learner.

Supervisory Duties:
Supervise, train, evaluate and provide general guidance to the Receptionist and Team Leaders.
Administration:
- Responsible for the timecard system for all assigned staff.
- Provide oversight and appropriate guidance to staff under the SACC program.
- Ensure that all performance evaluations for the teaching team are conducted as required or as needed.
- Issue progressive disciplinary action when warranted.
- Responsible for continuing to attain and impart Anishinaabe knowledge, values, and language to families, children, and staff to contribute to our children’s future as positive and productive members of society.
- Create space for speaking and learning Ojibwe.
- With increasing frequency and skill, speak Ojibwe.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by modeling and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with children, families, co-workers, and community members.
- Directs and promotes team cooperation in implementing the LLBO policies, Center Policies, the Leech Lake Child Care Licensing Requirements, and the Early Childhood Policies and Procedures.
- Plan & implement internal systems necessary for the operation of the program.
- Work with management and program staff to review or develop policies and operating procedures based on regulations and guidelines on an annual basis or as needed to ensure applicability to the program.
- Responsible for licensing and certifications.
- Ensure monitoring and tracking systems are in place.
- Ensure program plans are complete and that the daily, monthly, and annual activities and reports required by the staff are completed and submitted by the due date.
- Attend and or conduct all mandatory meetings and trainings as required.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics at all times.
- Travel in and out of the state on a regular basis.
- Understanding and sensitivity to Native American culture.
- Adhere to policies governing staff conduct.
Program Development:
- Develop and ensure that programming is inclusive of the arts, language and culture, technology, education, fitness, health, leadership, and service.
- Ensures high-quality programming and establishes new program activities. Expands program in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Ensure plans to better reach program goals are implemented in the learning environment.
- Ensure classroom plans for individual child learning based on the child’s development, interests, learning style, and goals.
- Provide oversight to the tracking and assessment of each child and how it is communicated with families.
- Monitor each classroom’s progress on entering data.
- Make appropriate changes based on program outcomes.
Classroom:
- Ensure a safe and healthy learning environment.
- Engage youth in cultural hands‑on activities that help them discover a sense of self‑identity and belonging .
- Actively engage with children. Build a consistent, respectful, and nurturing relationship with each child.
- Incorporate outdoor learning, garden experiences, and nature play in regular routines and learning plans.
- Promote and assist public relations by creating positive communications with parents, staff, and community members, including the resolution of conflicts.
- Ensure classroom staff plan for individual child learning based on the child’s development, interests, learning style, and goals.
- Provide oversight to the tracking and assessment of each child’s development and learning, and how it is communicated with families.
- Ensure the development of behavior support plans, as necessary, for individual children that include parent input.
Families:
- Build ongoing relationships with families and develop regular communication.
- Share Ojibwe language materials and goals with families.
- Regularly share observations with families about their child’s activities, interests, and development.
Professional Development and Parent Engagement:
- Participate in annual training as required by licensing, and attend ongoing in‑service training.
- Provide and ensure that an in‑depth orientation is conducted for all new youth development staff.
- Develop staff annual training program with the School Age team and Training and Culture Coordinator.
- Assist in the staff Ojibwemowin Language development plan.
- Work with the team to update and oversee the yearly written Professional Development Plan.
- Work with the team leads to monitor staff professional development plans and goals, provide training, mentoring, and oversight.
- Ensure center staff attend CACFP annual training and refresher courses as necessary.
- Develop, provide oversight, and coordinate the Family Engagement programming
Enrollment and CACFP:
- Oversee and ensure all requirements are met for the family enrollment.
- Meet with families and ensure all families understand enrollment and program policy.
- Be knowledgeable and ensure implementation of the CACFP service and Food Chart.
- Be knowledgeable and ensure implementation of CACFP Diet Statements (allergies) for participants who cannot follow the meal patterns.
- Ensure the ADA of the Monthly Attendance & Meal Count is followed.
- Gather and consolidate the attendance reports and submit for reimbursement.
Physical Requirements:
- A physical is required biannually, and a TB test is required every 5 years.
- Subject to random drug testing.
- Requires sitting, standing, bending, stooping, crawling, lifting, hiking, climbing, running, and reaching with manual dexterity sufficient to address the needs of children 5-12.
- Be physically fit to work with children 5-12.
- Be able to lift 50 lbs. three times or more and use proper body mechanics.
- Ability to be outdoors year-round.
