Job summary

Lochner, an Egis company, is seeking a Transportation Construction Inspector to join our Pittsburgh, PA team. The role focuses on supervising inspectors, reviewing contract plans, and coordinating with clients and contractors to ensure quality and schedule adherence.

Ideal candidates will have prior transportation inspection leadership experience on road/bridge projects, with PennDOT experience preferred, and be ready to work flexible hours as needed.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as Transportation Construction Inspector/Manager on road and bridge projects, PennDOT preferred.
  • Willingness to work weekends/nights/swing shifts on assigned projects.
  • Must interpret plans, standards, and specifications; strong math skills and proficiency with Word/Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of inspectors and assign work among staff, sub-consultants, and partners.
  • Review project activities with client and contractor field supervision to resolve disputes and issues.
  • Read and interpret complex contract plans, specifications, and language.
  • Monitor contractor progress and align with the Progress Schedule.
  • Lead construction meetings with clients and contractors; manage changes and claims.

Your Impact
  • This role will be a Transportation Construction Inspection Supervisor or Manager
  • Plans, reviews, and assigns work of construction field office personnel including Lochner staff, sub-consultants and partners
  • Supervises a team of inspectors responsible for monitoring work quality and performance
  • Reviews project activities with client and contractor's field supervision to resolve disputes and other project issues
  • Read and interpret complex contract plans and specifications
  • Read and interpret construction contract language
  • Monitor Contractor progress and compare with reviewed Progress Schedule
  • Review/coordinate and prepare responses to project correspondence, RFIs and technical submittals
  • Proactively manage construction changes and claims and work with client to resolve
  • Leads construction meetings with clients and contractors
  • Other duties as assigned
Who You Are
  • Previous experience as a Transportation Construction Inspection Supervisor or Transportation Construction Manager on road and bridge infrastructure required, PennDOT projects is preferred.
  • Willingness to work weekends, nights, and swing shifts as required on assigned projects
  • Requires progressive work-related experience
  • Work requires ability to gather and understand technical data for purposes of generating advanced technical reports
  • Requires advanced knowledge of construction practices and principles
  • Must be able to interpret plans, standards, and specifications.
  • Good understanding of construction specifications and plans.
  • Must have the ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of PennDOT or PTC specification and standards is required.
  • Ability to effectively lead a team of inspectors.
  • Valid Driver's License and clean driving record
  • Preferred Certifications:
    • NICET Level 2 or Higher in Highway Construction.
    • NECEPT Bituminous.
    • NECEPT Concrete.
