Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking a driver to pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers, supporting the selling process. The role requires operating tractor-trailer combinations, performing safety inspections, securing freight, and handling documentation.

The job includes duties such as communicating with customers, soliciting additional business, and following dispatch instructions. DOT regulations and hazardous materials handling are essential components of daily work.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements.
• MVR must meet hiring standards.
• DOT regulations knowledge under FMC 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles (and triples) and/or straight trucks.
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
• Collect cash or checks for freight charges and maintain documentation.
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays or equipment problems.
• Communicate with customers to determine pickup/delivery needs and solicit leads.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service; seek additional business.
• May be required to perform chaining of vehicle tires.
• May be required to perform duties of road driver or dock employee as needed.
• Comply with laws/regulations and company policies.
