Job summary

City of San Antonio is seeking a driver to operate a commercial refuse and/or recycling collection vehicle on assigned routes from the Southwest Service Center in San Antonio, TX. The role requires inspecting vehicles, loading/unloading, and coordinating with supervisors to follow routes and safety protocols.

Work hours are 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Applicants should be able to lift 40 pounds and perform daily reporting and truck cleaning duties as part of the

Qualifications

• Knowledge of vehicle safety procedures and practices.
• Knowledge of commercial vehicle operating procedures.
• Knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
• Ability to learn City streets.
• Ability to safely operate a large commercial vehicle in heavy traffic and in adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers.
• Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with co-workers, supervisors and the general public.
• Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.

Responsibilities

• Operates a large commercial vehicle to transport materials to appropriate disposal site.
• Inspects collection vehicle for proper mechanical functioning.
• Collects garbage, recyclables, brush and other materials on assigned routes.
• Ensures that collection workers have all necessary work equipment.
• Completes a daily activity report.
• Cleans truck at the end of each work day.
• Consults with supervisor on any route changes or hazardous driving conditions.
