Job summary

ESC Region 6 Education Service Center in Huntsville, TX seeks a part-time School Bus Driver Trainer to deliver FMCSA ELDT theory, range and road instruction for CDL Class B candidates. The trainer will provide both classroom and behind-the-wheel training and coordinate with BVCOG/H-GAC regions.

Qualifications include a current Texas School Bus Driver Certification, at least 3 years in driver training, and a valid Class B CDL with P and S endorsements. Flexible hours and regional travel may apply.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Current Texas School Bus Driver Certification.
• Texas School Bus Driver Training Instructor Certification preferred.
• At least 3 years of experience in driver training.
• Valid Texas CDL, Class B or higher, with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
• Meets FMCSA ELDT instructor requirements (theory and behind-the-wheel).
• Must maintain a safe driving record.
• Work location serves BVCOG and H-GAC regions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct FMCSA-approved ELDT theory, range, and road training for CDL Class B candidates.
• Deliver engaging classroom instruction on Texas CDL requirements and student transportation practices.
• Provide hands-on behind-the-wheel instruction and evaluations.
• Evaluate trainee performance and document progress for DPS skills testing.
• Maintain training records per FMCSA TPR requirements and agency standards.
• Collaborate with Safety Education staff and district Transportation Directors.
• Assist in delivering Bus Driver Certification (20-hour) and Re-Certification (8-hour) courses.
• Promote ESC 6 Safety Education and Training programs across the service region.
