Job summary

Spring ISD in Houston, TX seeks a Bus Driver Trainee to participate in the behind-the-wheel training program and prepare for Texas DPS skills tests to obtain a Class B CDL with Passenger and School Bus endorsements.

The role is 180 days per year, pays $11.61 per hour, part-time, with duties including pre-trip inspections, basic driving maneuvers, student loading, and safety responsibilities in various routes.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED from an accredited institution.
• 18 Years of Age.
• Two Years of experience as a licensed driver.
• Acceptable driving record and criminal history.
• Valid state of Texas Class C (or higher) driver license.
• Valid state of Texas Class B Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) with Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
• Pass a pre-employment Texas School Bus Driver physical exam and pre-employment drug test.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the Spring ISD behind the wheel training program to obtain the skills and techniques for the DPS tests.
• Pre-trip vehicle inspection including under-hood, interior, and exterior inspections.
• Basic vehicle control maneuvers: backing, turning, parking.
• Specialized maneuvers: railroad crossings, student loading, roadside stops, freeway driving.
• Ride on routes and observe techniques used by the bus driver for vehicle operation and control, student management, and safety procedures.
• Assist the driver with student management and safety while observing routes and loading/unloading students.
