Job summary

Tazewell County is seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker to support the Highway Department in Tremont, IL. Responsibilities include operating trucks for road maintenance, snow plowing, pavement work, and equipment upkeep. The role requires a CDL (class B with goal for class A within 6 months) and adherence to safety protocols.

The position features a structured on-site schedule with a 40-hour work week, occasional overtime, and union participation under Teamsters Local 627.

Qualifications

• CDL license (at least class B) required with ability to obtain class A within 6 months.
• Ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment and trucks.
• Must be able to perform duties safely and follow departmental procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks and equipment for road maintenance, hauling aggregates, dirt, and supplies.
• Snow plowing and applying striping paint where required.
• Perform pavement maintenance, patching, shoulder work, and drain/tile repair.
• Mow ROW using large tractors and mowers; assist with equipment maintenance and cleaning.
• Participate in random drug and alcohol testing; on-call 24/7 rotation.
• Assist with building and grounds maintenance and sign repairs as needed.
